I’m not always motivated and often just want to sit in a dark room and sulk.

But I’ve learned a ton over 17 years of near-daily writing that helps me get into the zone and just create.

Here are 9 tips that ensure you stay motivated to create consistently:

1. The most prolific creators rarely feel motivated before they start.

They start, regardless of how they feel, and work themselves into being motivated.

The habit eventually becomes so strong, I can’t not write, and my feelings at that moment have nothing to do with it.

2. Stop thinking you need to know everything in advance before starting.

You need to be OK with not knowing and create anyway.

This means writing into the uncertainty. Being willing to first draft slop.

Edit into something beautiful later.
