Understanding this one thing kept my online businesses from sinking
I’ve been entrepreneurial since I set up a real estate website that advertised homes at age 17.
I made one sale by cheque.
I’ve started and mostly failed at many ventures since.
I used to get so wound up when my money-making schemes wouldn’t work as planned.
But there’s one thing I’ve learned over these years that’s probably helped me the most.
It’s super underrated, and most people miss this and let their dreams fade.
I’ve since been able to achieve my goal of being able to live and work anywhere in the world, writing, coaching and making cool things.
I still get it wrong, but things always pick up when I remember the one thing I’m about to tell you.
I don’t want your dreams to fade.
So I want you to remember this:
You set yourself up to fail when you take business too seriously.
This is why you must approach all of this stuff - yes all of it - even if bills and important life things are on the line - with as much good humour as you can find.
It really is a game. It’s an illusion, and the only way to play an illusion is to play.
You can’t force and fluster your way through maintaining the illusion of making money.
It’s all a bit ridiculous.
And that’s fine. As long as you acknowledge it as just that.
The moment you grit teeth and lose sleep over what isn’t working, is the minute your business will begin to fold.
Because to succeed in the long run, you must float a light-hearted energy.
When you close yourself off to this, like I have in the past many times, others sense it. You seem desperate.
And money flows to the light-hearted.
Money scales for those who understand the game and enjoy the game.
Start with this perspective.
When you make it heavy, you’ll sink.
Thanks for reading.
